Is Nebraska About to Give Itself a Black Eye?

The Nebraska legislature is considering a bill to "ban reproductive cloning and the creation of embryos for stem cell research using a technique called somatic cell nuclear transfer — more commonly referred to as therapeutic cloning," according to the Lincoln Journal Star.

“If it happens here, it won’t be good for us,” says Dr. David Crouse, a professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. A state ban on all human cloning would give Nebraska a “black eye” and harm some of its research institutions, he says.

What seems to worry our neighbors to the north most, is that the state might become the butt of jokes by late-night TV talk show hosts -- much like Kansas after the school board banned evolution.
