The List Goes On and On

“Witchcraft is being mainstreamed to our kids today but people are not aware of it. They think these books are fantasies but Wicca is a real recognized religion,” says Laura Mallory an Atlanta mother who wants to ban Harry Potter from elementary schools there.

The real danger, we suspect, for Mallory and others like her, is that the Harry Potter novels make kids want to read. And that's a dangerous thing because reading might just put ideas in their heads.

Gwinnett County Schools attorney Victoria Sweeny says that under Mallory’s reasoning school bookshelves could become virtually empty, according to WXIA-TV in Atlanta.

“Obviously there are witches in ‘Macbeth,’ sprites in ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream,’ witches in ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘Sleeping Beauty’ -- the list goes on and on,” she said.
