Our man on the scene, John Tatarko sends along this report from the Kansas Alliance for Education fundraiser in Manhattan:
Even though the Kansas Board of Education seat currently held by right wing member Kathy Martin will not be contested in November, over 150 Manhattan citizens gathered under blue Kansas skies for some good fun, good music, good discussion, and to raise money in support of moderate KBE candidates running for election around the state.
The Red State Blues Band, made up primarily of K-State scientists -- all of whom supported a resolution passed by the Manhattan School Board to reject the new state science standards -- headlined the fundraiser for the Kansas Alliance for Education.
Current KBE member Sue Gamble along with Randy Martin, president of the USD 383 Board of Education spoke to the crowd. Several other Manhattan School Board members as well as a state legislator were in attendance.
