Oh, the Lessons They've Planned
Last year, after speaking on the battle over Kansas science standards to an adult education group affiliated with the United Methodist Church, a woman in the audience told me that a creationist teacher at her daughter's elementary school in suburban Johnson County had asked second graders there how many believed in the biblical story of Genesis and how many believed in evolution.
Those children who raised their hands for evolution -- including her daughter -- were told to put their heads down on their desks as if they'd misbehaved.
