Missouri: Answers in Genisis to Address School Assembly

Mike Riddle, who represents Answers in Genesis, the Kentucky based fundamentalist group that opposes evolution and advocates teaching biblical literalism, is scheduled to speak today to high school and middle school students in the Potosi school district in southeast Missouri on "Fascinating Facts About Origins."

Americans United for Separation of Church and State has sent a letter to Superintendent Randy Davis and other school officials, demanding the school district cancel the school assembly and middle school classroom visits.

“It is wrong for public schools to promote religion as science,” said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United executive director. “The Constitution does not permit it, and the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled against it.

"He [Riddle] doesn't have to use the word 'God' or mention the Bible to push his religious agenda," says Americans United Richard Katskee, who says that school districts that put on such programs risk litigation.
