Their Morals and Ours
The fundamentalist Christian right says that teaching evolution in public schools, gay marriage, and educating high school students about condoms to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases is ruining America's morals.
Claude Allen, until recently President Bush's chief domestic policy adviser, has been described by journalist Doug Ireland as "a notorious homophobe, a ferocious enemy of abortion and an opponent of safe-sex education who for years has been one of the AIDS community's principal enemies."
He should be one of the most moral men in America, right?
If what the Christian right says about cause of America's moral decline is correct, how do they explain that Allen was arrested last week in suburban Maryland on charges he stole merchandise from Target and other stores, in what police said was a scheme that lasted months and netted him more than $5,000 in goods that ranged from a Bose home theater system to $2.50 trinkets?
Is it overkill to mention that Allen was also deeply involved in the Bush administration's woefully inept response to Hurricane Katrina?
