The Anti-Clergy Letter Project

Christian fundamentalists have, apparently, been stung by the success of the Clergy Letter Project. To date, more than 10,000 clergy people have signed a statement saying, "Christian clergy from many different traditions, believe that the timeless truths of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist. We believe that the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth, one that has stood up to rigorous scrutiny and upon which much of human knowledge and achievement rests."

Now, a group called the Pillar and Support Alliance is circulating a competing statement , an "Open Letter Concerning Christianity and Creation," that claims:
The account of origins presented in Genesis is a simple but factual presentation of actual events and therefore provides a reliable framework for scientific research into the question of origin and history of life, mankind, the Earth and the universe. The scientific aspects of creation are important, but are secondary in importance to the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as Sovereign, Creator, Redeemer and Judge. The doctrines of Creator and Creation cannot be divorced from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If they're successful, we won't need to bother with approving biology textbooks anymore. We'll just hand students a Bible when they walk into class. After all, it provides a reliable framework for scientific research into the question of origin and history of life, mankind, the Earth and the universe. Doesn't it?
