We Vote for Neither

Kentucky is buzzing about Gov. Ernie Fletcher's State of the Commonwealth address where he said local school districts should have the freedom to teach intelligent design if they want.

A Kentucky statute explicitly gives permission for creationism to be taught but doesn't require it. The law doesn't mention intelligent design, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

So why did Fletcher bring up ID?

Kentucky State Sen. Ed Worley of Richmond and Democratic Rep. Frank Rasche of Paducah think Fletcher might have been trying to score political points with Christian conservative voters because his poll numbers have dropped in recent months.

In Pennsylvania, Sen. Rick Santorum backed away from ID in response to his own plummeting poll numbers.

RSR wonders which strategy will work, one, both, or neither.
