The Lord Made Her Do It

"I believe this is the class that the Lord wanted me to teach," writes Sharon Lemburg, a social studies teacher, soccer coach, and preacher's wife, who plans to teach, "Philosophy of Design," at Frazier Mountain High School in California.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State has filed suit on behalf of 11 parents whose children attend school there.

Paula Harvey, head of the El Tejon Teachers' Association and mother of two high school students told AP reporter Juliana Barbassa that dialogue is a fine thing, but for a small, cash-strapped school district the real problem might be paying its way through a potentially expensive court battle.

"Every year, we've cut back on teachers, on programs, on supplies. We used to give students pencils, and we don't even do that anymore," she said. "We can ill afford to spend all this money defending what the superintendent is calling 'just a philosophy class.'"
