Branching Out

Perhaps hedging their bets against the day when court rulings outlawing the teaching of intelligent design in public schools finally put them out of business, the Seattle-based Discovery Institute has begun to branch out.

They've joined Star Financial Bank, FreedomWorks, TechPoint, Verizon, the Indiana Exchange Carrier Association, AT&T, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Telecommunications Associations, TDS Telecom and the Indiana Manufacturers Association in supporting proposed telecom legislation before the Indiana State Senate that would deregulate basic phone service when providers reach 50-percent broadband penetration.

Consumer-advocates, reportedly, oppose the measure due to concerns over possible rate hikes.
