As Ye Sow, So Shall Ye Reap

That old biblical injunction has been ignored by the Christian fundamentalist majority of the Kansas State Board of Education, but as the board prepares to vote this afternoon to redefine science -- at least in the public schools of the state of Kansas -- the bitter harvest of their actions may already coming to fruit.

Terry Rombeck reports today in the Lawrence Journal-World that KU students wanting to teach biology are considering leaving state.

[Mike] Karlin, an education major from Overland Park who plans to teach high school biology, said he was tempted to avoid the controversy of teaching evolution in Kansas by landing a job elsewhere.

“It puts teachers in Kansas in a difficult situation,” Karlin said. “It would make it more likely for me to go somewhere else.”
