Another Candidate Announces for Kansas State School Board

Don Weiss, a 25-year resident of the Olathe area, announced today that he is a Democratic candidate for the Kansas State Board of Education’s Third District with the following statement.

“Today I am announcing my candidacy for the 3rd District of the Kansas State Board of Education because I believe the children of Kansas deserve a Board of Education that will prepare them to successfully compete in a global economy rather than a Board that is interested only in advancing their own personal ideology. Not only is the quality of our children’s education at stake, but also the long-term economic growth of the State of Kansas if we continue down a path where the personal beliefs of a Board’s Radical Right attempt to suppress the search for knowledge and understanding. Additionally, our children's education is far too important to put a special-interest lobbyist who has no education experience in charge of Kansas schools, especially when that lobbyist has worked hard to reduce funding for Kansas schools.

KCFS President Harry McDonald has also announced that he will run against board member John Bacon in the 3rd District.

“There was a time when Kansans were proud to be from the same state as Bob Dole, Amelia Earhart, Dwight Eisenhower, Nancy Kassebaum, Alf Landon, and William Allen White," says Weiss.

“Now Kansas is again the laughing stock of the world and the butt of a thousand jokes because the Board's Radical Right have ignored education experts, made outrageous statements, and put cronyism and personal ideology ahead of their duty.
