Cardinal Schoenborn Clarification Acknowledgement Watch Contest Day 7

Last July, writing in the New York Times Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn wrote, "defenders of neo-Darwinian dogma have often invoked the supposed acceptance -- or at least acquiescence -- of the Roman Catholic Church when they defend their theory as somehow compatible with Christian faith."

One week ago, today, Cardinal Schoenborn cleared up what he called the misunderstanding created by his July Op-Ed:
“Without a doubt, Darwin pulled off quite a feat with his main work and it remains one of the very great works of intellectual history,” the Cardinal went on to say “I see no problem combining belief in the Creator with the theory of evolution, under one condition — that the limits of a scientific theory are respected.”

Now, back in July, the Discovery Institute blog, Evolution News and Views, pranced around the citadel of science blowing its horn as if the walls were about to come tumbling down. They were joined by others in the intelligent design blogosphere, such as Denyse O'Leary, who publishes the Post-Darwinist blog, in making this joyful noise.

They were jubilant then, silent now.

Last week, RSR sponsored a contest to predict when these intelligent designers would break their silence on the cardinal's new-found respect for evolution. We even offered a prize to anyone who could predict when these blogs would acknowledge it. We have entries, and we're pleased to note that most contestants are still in the running, having predicted some variation of: "When hell freezes over."
