Intelligent Design's Expert Witnesses
Now that Kansas intelligent design proponents have announced their witness list for the evolution show trial planned by the creationist majority on the state school board, Red State Rabble will begin to examine the qualifications and credibility of those witnesses.
RSR will look first at Dr. Bruce Simat, an associate professor who teaches Immunology, General Biology, and Physiology at Northwestern College, in St. Paul. He is scheduled to give testimony on May 6. According to the Northwestern website, Dr. Simat's interests include, "laboratory applications, product development, and research." No CV is available there.
Dr. Simat is listed as a donor on the 2003 Annual Financial Report of the MacLaurin Institute in Minneapolis, which according to its statement of faith:
Northwestern College describes itself as "a community in which all learning is framed within the context of a Christian worldview. Every student who completes a four-year degree receives the equivalent of a second major in Bible in addition to the major of choice. Daily chapel is an integral part of the program... "
Northwestern College owns and operates 15 Christian media outlets located in Saint Paul/Minneapolis, MN; Duluth, MN; Fargo, ND; Madison, WI; Waterloo, IA; Des Moines, IA; Sioux Falls, SD; and Sarasota, FL.
Northwestern College, according to its website, "is an independent nonprofit enterprise that takes a Biblically Christian ethical and moral position and is theologically conservative in doctrine."
