KASB Candidate Forums Scheduled Across State
The Kansas Association of School Boards has announced it will sponsor a series of candidate briefings on, “What Candidates and Voters Need to Know About Public Education.” These briefings will be held around the state.
All candidates for the Kansas House of Representatives and Kansas State Board of Education will be invited to attend. According to the KASB, these meetings are not intended to be debates or forums for candidates to speak. Instead, the purpose is to allow candidates to learn about key educational issues.
The forums will also be an opportunity for area school leaders to hear about these key issues and meet candidates from their area. Even if candidates do not attend, school board members and staff members can use this information in their personal contacts.
Local media will also be invited. This will promote press coverage of education issues, and hopefully encourage attendance by candidates.
The KASB staff will present a program that reviews major issues confronting public education, including school finance, educational standards, student achievement and school governance, followed by time for questions. Following the formal program, candidates will be able to meet informally with local school leaders and voters.
