Sophisticated Genocide

Employing the gift of understatement so characteristic of the religious right, Richard Thompson, chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center -- you remember them, the legal geniuses that cost the taxpayers of Dover a cool $1 million -- says that Christianity is under siege from all quarters. Especially from the federal courts, the American Civil Liberties Union, and what Thompson likes to call the "homosexual lobby."

The ACLU and the courts are "basically cleansing America of religion and particularly Christianity," Thompson says according to Jenni Laidman of the Toledo Blade. "It's almost like a genocide. It's a sophisticated genocide."

Thompson, apparently, has never taken a biology class. "I didn't want to cut up frogs," he says.

Following his performance in the Dover intelligent design case, some wags are suggesting he never took a law class, either.
