Santorum: The Leopard Retains His Spots

Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum resigned from the board of the Thomas More Law Center -- which defended the teaching of intelligent design in the Dover -- after Judge Jones ruled that teaching ID is an unconstitutional violation of church-state separation. Santorum says he was troubled by testimony that some school board members were motivated by religion to adopt the teaching of intelligent design.

Cynics may conclude that Santorum -- an incumbent who is running behind his Democratic challenger -- simply read the hand writing on the wall when the voters of Dover turned out every single supporter of intelligent design on the Dover school board last November, as well.

Santorum's survival instinct haven't prevented him, though, from joining Tony Perkins, Dr. James Dobson, Jerry Falwell, Bishop Wellington Boone, and the Rev. Herbert Lusk at Justice Sunday III, an event intended to build grassroots support among Christian fundamentalists for Judge Samuel Alito's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.
