Wagnon Won't Run in 2008

According to a report by Associated Press reporter John Hanna, Kansas state school board moderate Bill Wagnon, a Democrat from Topeka, will not seek re-election in 2008. Wagnon has played a key role over the past three terms in defending science education in the state.

As we mentioned Friday, Alan "Half-Chimp" Detrich, a creationist, has announced he will run for Wagnon's seat.

If Janet Waugh holds on to her seat, as we expect, and moderates take at least two of the four other board seats up for election next November, Wagnon will be part of the new moderate majority for two more years. And, the inane policies of the current board majority can be reversed.

Those who want to defend public education will need to find a strong candidate to replace him when the time comes.
